Niners interview Mac Duff for special teams coordinator

Mike Singletary has interviewed Larry Mac Duff for the 49ers' vacant special teams coordinator position, the team has confirmed. Mac Duff is familiar to head coach Mike Singletary having served as the 49ers special teams coordinator from 2003 to 2006. Mac Duff was succeeded by Al Everest in 2007. The 49ers declined to renew Everest's contract earlier this week. The team also is believed to be interested in former Bills coordinator Bobby April.

Following his stint with the 49ers, Mac Duff, 61, was the co-defensive coordinator at the University of Texas in 2007. He most recently was the defensive coordinator of the Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL. Mac Duff is perhaps best known for his "Desert Swarm" defense at the University of Arizona in the early 1990s.
