News, notes and reader questions about the San Francisco 49ers

Farewell, Frank & Beans. Hello, Smash & Grab?

If I were to get hit by a bus today or otherwise depart my mortal coil, my greatest gift to western civilization will have been "Frank & Beans," the running back nickname I bestowed on Frank Gore and Glen Coffee last year. I'm as proud of Frank & Beans as fathers are of their first-born sons. And yet Frank & Beans is no more. (Excuse me. I need a moment ...)

So it is with heavy heart that I embark on a new backfield-moniker challenge. I was asked last night about a possible Gore-Brian Westbrook nickname, and "Smash & Grab" immediately came to mind. But while I like it, it's no "Frank & Beans." Here are some other entries sent to me on Twitter (@mattbarrows). Polls close next week. The winner gets a Bee T-shirt*.

-- @BlazerFan_in_SF How about Nova-Cane?
-- @49ersfancast Hit and Miss?
-- @ airick88 hit & run
-- @ travisbarnette Go West
-- @ SE686 Beast meets West

-- Matt Barrows

* Bee T-shirts do not exist and contest winner will not be awarded one.
