The San Francisco to Seattle pipeline is alive and kickin'. The 49ers division rivals today signed running back Michael Robinson to a one-year deal, according to a league source. Robinson was a surprise cut two days ago by the 49ers. The news was first reported by independent reporter Brian McIntyre. The Seahawks previously traded for ex-49er defensive end Kentwan Balmer and picked up receiver Brandon Jones after he had been cut by the 49ers. Balmer is still with Seattle; Jones was released yesterday.
It's safe to say that no rival knows the 49ers better than the Seahawks. Former GM Scot McCloughan has a seat next to current Seattle GM John Schneider in the Seahawks' front office, and he likely has been singing Robinson's praises over the last two days. Robinson never saw much action at running back for the 49ers, but he has been the team's special teams leader over the last two seasons. The 49ers and Seahawks open the season in one week.
In other news, the Titans cut former Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount today. If you recall, Blount briefly agreed to join the 49ers after he went undrafted in April but ultimately thought he had a better shot with the Titans. Since then, the 49ers have lost one running back, Glen Coffee, but gained another, Brian Westbrook. We'll know more re: Blount when the waivers period ends tomorrow.
