I've never seen a walk-through get so much attention. As the 49ers went through the paces Wednesday morning, more than 30 reporters, cameramen and staffers were gathered on a slight rise about the field in observation. And only a small percentage was Americans. The rest were UK-based reporters and crew who had driven a half hour east from London to the green, quiet pastureland in Hertfordshire where the 49ers are conducting their practices this week.
That the U.K. would supply a nice turnout is no surprise. According to NFLUK, the 49ers are the third most-popular NFL team here, trailing only the Patriots and Dolphins. On that note, I am seeking some British 49ers fans for an upcoming story. I'm especially interested in Brits who became fans during the 1980s. If that's you and you don't mind being quoted, please tell me the story of how your fandom began. Include name, age and where you're from. Email me at mbarrows@sacbee.com.
