Arkansas quarterback due to visit 49ers

Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett is racking up the frequent-flier miles. Mallett has visits or workouts or both scheduled with just about every team that needs a quarterback, including the 49ers. Mallett will fly into Santa Clara on April 11 and meet with coaches and team officials the following day, according to his agent.

Mallett has perhaps the best combination of arm strength, touch and accuracy among draft-eligible quarterbacks, and his 6-6 frame gives him a nice vantage point from the pocket. Mallett threw for 3,869 yards last season at Arkansas -- considerably more than any of the top quarterbacks in the draft -- and he also tossed 32 touchdowns against 12 interceptions.

But Mallett also might be the least athletic of the top six quarterbacks. At his pro day earlier this month, Mallett reportedly ran the 40-yard dash between 5.37 and 5.39 seconds, which were slower than the times posted by every quarterback who was invited to the NFL scouting combine. Mallett also was peppered with character-related questions at the combine.

Asked to describe the kind of person he was, Mallett said: "I would say I'm a great person. I would also tell them to ask the coaches and the people I've worked with before. And if you don't know about my character, ask them and they can tell you."

The same line of questioning awaits Mallett on his NFL visits. The 49ers, Seahawks, Vikings, Panthers, Bengals and Titans are among the teams that will meet with him. The Dolphins seem particularly interested. They had a private workout with Mallett today and also will visit with him in South Florida after his meeting with the 49ers.

Here are some clips of Mallett along with some *bonus* footage of Von Miller:

• Don't repeat the same comment over and over. We heard you the first time.

• Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.

You are more likely to see inappropriate comments before our staff does, so we ask that you click the "report abuse" button to submit those comments for moderator review.
