Take THAT, Alex Smith! Aaron Rodgers, who has been waiting patiently for six and half years to avenge his draft-day free fall, finally got it today when he edged out Smith to be the FedEx Air player of the week for Week 4. I'm told the fan vote was close. The Giants' Eli Manning came in third.

Rodgers completed 29 of 38 passes for 408 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in the Packers' 49-23 win over the Denver Broncos. His 134.5 quarterback rating was the highest on the weekend.
Smith, meanwhile, threw for 291 yards and two touchdowns in the 49ers' 24-23 win over the Eagles. Both touchdowns and 179 of the passing yards came in the third quarter. Smith was 9-9 in the quarter, and it was the most yards in a single quarter in Smith's career.
Smith also was nominated after a Week 14 win over Seattle last season. Tom Brady won that week. Since the inception of the weekly award, only one 49ers quarterback has won it. Jeff Garcia got in 2003.
Odds & Ends
• Cornerback Shawntae Spencer, who missed the first two practices this week with a hyperextended toe, was in uniform and stretching with teammates before today's walk-through. Check back later for his practice involvement.
• Nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga was not at practice. Ricky Jean Francois figures to make his first-ever start.
• Yes, I know that Aaron Rodgers won a Super Bowl, was a Super Bowl MVP and has whooped up on the 49ers at every possibly opportunity. The first paragraph was written tongue in cheek. It's called sarcasm, people. Sheesh! Also, I'd reaaallly like to spend another week in Boardman, Ohio and I think "Road House" should have won best picture.
