49ers' official draft order ... for now

anthonyDavis.jpg

As expected the 49ers received no compensatory picks today for next month's draft. As it stands now, the team's draft is very straightforward - it has one pick in rounds 1-7, beginning with the 30th overall selection. The 49ers jumped up one slot in the second because the Saints were docked their second-round pick because of their bounty issues. The 49ers got an extra seventh-round pick from the Bengals for Taylor Mays, but that's in the 2013 draft.

Of course, the 49ers' order can and probably will change. Since he began running the draft two years ago, general manager Trent Baalke hasn't stayed in one place. He traded up in the first round in 2010 to get right tackle Anthony Davis and down in the third round where he found NaVorro Bowman. Last year, he traded up in the second round to get Colin Kaepernick, then traded up again in the fifth round to get guard Daniel Kilgore, who at this point is the frontrunner for the right guard position in 2012.

Here's where the 49ers are picking in the three-day draft, which begins April 26.

Round 1: 30th overall
Round 2: 61st overall
Round 3: 92nd overall
Round 4: 125th overall
Round 5: 165th overall
Round 6: 199th overall
Round 7: 237th overall

Compensatory picks are awarded based on a formula that mostly factors in the number of free agents a team lost the season prior vs. the number is gained. The league handed out compensatory picks to 15 teams, including the Raiders, who received extra picks in the third, fourth and fifth rounds.
