The 49ers have a season-high nine players listed on their injury report today despite playing only one game in the last 21 days. Bad luck? Attrition? Overly physical practices?
My guess is that the team is being extra cautious after watching a handful of other squads -- including brother John's Ravens -- get fined $20,000 for violating the league's procedures for reporting injury information. Safety Ed Reed last month told a local radio station that he's been playing with a torn labrum. The problem: Baltimore hadn't listed Reed on their injury reports. The Rams, Redskins and Bills also have been fined for the same infraction.
All of the 49ers on the injury report this week practiced in full, an indication that none is too serious. Two new ones -- Michael Crabtree and Patrick Willis -- were added today.
WR Michael Crabtree (illness), LB Tavares Gooden (elbow), RB Frank Gore (hand), G Daniel Kilgore (concussion), P Andy Lee (hand), WR Mario Manningham (shoulder), QB Alex Smith (right finger), DT Will Tukuafu (wrist), LB Patrick Willis (shoulder)
