Brandon Jacobs is a healthy scratch -- again -- as the 49ers prepare to face the Rams. Jacobs joins fellow running back LaMiachael James in street clothes today. Meanwhile, the Rams are sitting two stand-out rookies, cornerback Janoris Jenkins and receiver Chris Givens, after they violated team rules. Both are starters, and Jenkins' absence means that St. Louis goes into the game with just three cornerbacks. Givens has been the team's best deep threat through the first half of the season.
Neither Jacobs nor James is active because the 49ers have been doing so well with Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter as the primary rushers -- the 49ers are No. 1 in the league and rushing -- and because Anthony Dixon is a core special teams player.
The other inactive 49ers are: quarterback Scott Tolzien, receiver A.J. Jenkins, safety Trenton Robinson, guard Joe Looney and nose tackle Ian Williams.
Meanwhile, receiver Danny Amendola is active and will start for the Rams. St. Louis' inactives also include: quarterback Austin Davis, safety Darian Stewart, OL Chris Williams and defensive end Eugene Sims.
Bradley Fletcher will start at cornerback for Jenkins; Amendola is in for Givens.
