I hope you packed galoshes. The weather for today's game is supposed to be New Englandy. Beginning this afternoon - about three hours before game time - a wintry mix is supposed to begin, according to forecasters. They're calling for temperatures around 36 degrees. But as the game goes on, the temperature is supposed to rise, turning the precipitation exclusively to rain.
The 49ers have practiced in rain a few times this season. (After only once last year). It's been about 20 to 30 degrees warmer, however, during those Santa Clara sessions. Instead players like Colin Kaepernick will have to draw from their college experiences.

Mario Manningham has been *from doubtful to "out" for the game. That means rookie A.J. Jenkins likely will get into the game. The No. 30 overall pick still is looking for his first NFL reception. In fact, he has yet to see a ball thrown his way.
*****************************
Why was practice-squad WR Chad Hall, who played the role of Wes Welker this week in practice, released Friday? It's because the 49ers have an extra spot on their 53-man roster. When there's an open roster spot and you have a player who's been on the practice squad as long as Hall - three seasons - league ruled stipulate that he must be elevated to fill the open spot.
Because the 49ers had no plans to activate Hall for today's game even if he were on the 53-man roster, they instead released him from the practice squad with plans to sign him early next week. It essentially means that the 49ers will make one fewer person inactive today. (Look for that list to include: Manningham, Scott Tolzien, Jewel Hampton, Joe Looney, Trenton Robinson and Ian Williams).
