Vernon Davis has passed all of his post-concussion tests and will play in today's finale against the Cardinals. Davis absorbed a huge hit from Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor in the first quarter last week and was knocked out of the game. Davis said that was one of the hardest hits he's ever taken. One delivered by Arizona safety Adrian Wilson is up there, too, he said.
Justin Smith, as expected, is inactive for the second straight game. The 49ers are hoping his partially torn triceps tendon will heal to the point that he can be effective for the playoffs. Smith told The Bee on Friday he would play even if the playoffs begin next weekend. The 49ers are still in play for a first-round bye, which they would get with a win today coupled with a loss by the Packers in Minnesota.
Backup defensive end Will Tukuafu also is inactive. The team promoted defensive end Tony Jerod-Eddie from the practice squad last week and he is in uniform today (No. 63). That means the 49ers have two undrafted rookies in uniform - tight end Garrett Celek is the other - and two draft picks in uniform, A.J. Jenkins and LaMichael James.
The other 49ers inactives: Scott Tolzien, Trenton Robinson, Joe Looney, Jewel Hampton and Eric Bakhtiari.
For the Cardinals, D'Anthony Batiste will start at left tackle for Nate Potter. Bastiste will square off against Aldon Smith, who is three sacks from tying Michael Strahan's season-sack record (22 1/2). Brian Hoyer starts at quarterback for Ryan Lindley. Jim Dray starts for Anthony Sherman at fullback/h-back.
The other Cardinals inactives: receiver LaRon Byrd, QB John Skelton, G Mike Gibson, WR Early Doucet and DE Ronald Talley.
