The safeties are coming.
On the same day the 49ers' former free safety, Dashon Goldson, inked a big, five-year deal with Tampa Bay, the 49ers were linked with no fewer than four safeties who could take his place. They are:
Charles Woodson. The 15-year veteran met with the team today, but as of Wednesday night no deal had been reached.
LaRon Landry. The 28-year-old ex-Redskin and Jet was scheduled to meet with the 49ers on Thursday but the Colts were close to inking him to a deal Wednesday evening. ****UPDATE**** The Colts signed Landry to a four-year deal that averages $6 million a year.
Ed Reed. The vetern Ravens safety will make his first stop in Houston. CBS Sports reported that Reed also could visit the 49ers and Colts if there's no deal with the Texans. Obviously, if Landry ends up in Indianapolis, they will not be interested in Reed.
Louis Delmas. ESPN reported that he is on his way to San Francisco after a visit with St. Louis. At age 25, Delmas is the youngest of the group. The 33rd overall draft pick to the Lions in 2009, Delmas was a Pro Bowl alternate in 2010 and 2011. The downside: Delmas has not started 16 games in any of his four seasons, is more of an in-the-box safety and has only three career interceptions.
