Ertz, not Allen, among potential draftees at 49ers "local" pro day

Perhaps as many as 10 players who either grew up in the Bay Area or played here in college will be drafted next week. All of them at least are eligible to attend the 49ers' so-called "local" pro day on Wednesday.

The player in that group who could be drafted the highest, Cal receiver, Keenan Allen, will not be on hand, his agent said this week. Allen, who still is recovering from an October knee injury, is making several pre-draft visits this week. His brother, Cal quarterback Zach Maynard, will be on hand.

Citing league sources, ESPN's Adam Schefter today reported that Allen was red-flagged after taking a drug test at the combine and was re-tested this month. His agent told ESPN that the receiver did not fail a drug test and that the reexamination was due to his knee injury. Allen is expecting to be taken some time in the first round.

The other local player with first-round potential is Stanford tight end Zack Ertz. He will attend Wednesday's session but will not work out, his agent said. There was a heavy 49ers presence at Stanford's pro day last month.

The 49ers have not released a list of attendees. However, here are the draft-eligible players from the three major local universities:

Cal: RB C.J. Anderson, CB Marc Anthony, DB Josh Hill, QB Zach Maynard, DL Kendrick Payne, C Brian Schwenke, RB Isi Sofele, FB Eric Stevens, G Matt Summers-Gavin, DT Aaron Tipoti, CB Steve Williams

San Jose State: RB De'Leon Eskridge, OLB Travis Johnson, S James Orth, TE Ryan Otten, OL David Quessenberry, DE David Tuitupou, CB Ronnie Yell

Stanford: CB Terrence Brown, OLB Alex Debniak, TE Zack Ertz, WR Jamal-Rashad Patterson, C Sam Schwartzstein, DT Terrence Stephens, RB Stepfan Taylor, WR Drew Terrell, OLB Chase Thomas, TE Levine Toilolo, P Daniel Zychlinski

Players permitted to attend the pro day either had to attend one of the Bay Area universities or have grown up within 45 miles of the team's facility in Santa Clara. Other draft-eligible players who would be able to attend include:

BYU S Joe Sampson, Oakland
Cal Poly LB Kennith Jackson, Santa Clara
Cal Poly WR Deonte Williams, Oakland
Cal Poly DB Bismark Navarro, San Francisco
Colorado OT David Bakhtiari, Burlingame*
Duquesne OL Jeremy Summers, Oakland
Fresno State WR/returner Rashad Evans, San Francisco
Fresno State P Andrew Shapiro, Walnut Creek
Nevada LB Albert Rosette, Antioch
Oregon LB Kiko Alonso, Los Gatos
Oregon LB Michael Clay, San Jose
Oregon WR Rahsaan Vaughn, Oakland
Sac State RB A.J. Ellis, San Jose
USC S Drew McAllister, Danville
Utah DT Joape Pela, East Palo Alto
West Virginia Wesleyan QB Nate Montana, De la Salle High*

* I'm told Bakhtiari, who is training in Southern California, will not attend the 49ers pro day.

* CSN Bay Area reports that Montana, the son of a certain former 49er, also will attend the workout.
