Report: 49ers to open season against Green Bay

For the second straight year, the 49ers will open the season against Green Bay, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The game will be at Candlestick Park on Sept. 8 with the kickoff at 1:25 p.m.

The teams met in Green Bay in Week 1 in 2012, a game in which Alex Smith outdueled Aaron Rodgers and one that the 49ers won 30-22. The Packers and 49ers played again in the divisional round of the playoffs, and this time Colin Kaepernick was the quarterback.

He rushed for 181 yards -- an NFL record for a quarterback -- and the San Francisco offense racked up 579 yards overall. That's been an offseason rallying cry for the Packers, whose coaching staff turned to the college ranks to figure out how to stop the read-option offense that Kaepernick ran to such devastating effect against them.
