49ers ink running back Lattimore to four-year deal

And then there were two ...

The 49ers today announced they had signed running back Marcus Lattimore, the second of their two fourth-round picks, to a four-year contract. That leaves only first-round pick Eric Reid and third-round selection Corey Lemonier unsigned.

Lattimore, 21, is considered one of the most talented runners in this year's draft class, but he suffered knee injuries in each of the last two seasons, including a gruesome blow to his right knee which tore three ligaments and dislocated the knee cap. Lattimore has been rehabilitating -- slowly -- with the team's training staff while the rest of the 49ers go through OTA practices.

It is unlikely that Lattimore, a three-time All-SEC selection, will begin the season on the 49ers' 53-man roster. Instead, he could begin on the non-football injury list, which would give the team the option of activating him later in the year. They took the same approach last season with running back Jewel Hampton, who was dealing with bone spurs in his foot.
