49ers sign a dozen undrafted rookies

The 49ers drafted 11 rookies last week and signed 12 more this week. The dozen include former British discus thrower Lawrence Okoye, who will get a chance to play defensive end, and 6-9 offensive tackle Luke Marquardt, who could have a future role as the team's 'swing' offensive tackle.

C Sherman Carter, Tennessee State
FB Alex Debniak, Stanford
HB, TE MarQueis Gray, Minnesota
RB D.J. Harper, Boise State
WR Chuck Jacobs, Utah State
T Luke Marquardt, Azusa Pacific
LS Kevin McDermott, UCLA
CB Darryl Morris, Texas State
DL Lawrence Okoye, no college
G Patrick Omameh, Michigan
NT Mike Purcell, Wyoming
CB Lowell Rose, Tulsa

Marquardt, who is recovering from a broken foot, will not take part in the rookie minicamp that begins Friday. Neither will draft picks Tank Carradine (knee) and Marcus Lattimore (knee).

The team also signed punter Anthony Santella to a one-year deal. The 6-2, 190-pound Santella played at Illinois and entered the league as an undrafted rookie with the Carolina Panthers in 2011. He spent training camp with the team that year before being released. He will provide practice relief for All-Pro Andy Lee as the 49ers attempt to find a punt returner.
