American summer attire: flip flops, shorts and - judging from recent sales - a red and gold no. 7 jersey with "Kaepernick" stenciled across the back.
Yes, Colin Kaepernick's 49ers jersey was the NFL's top seller from April 1 through June 30, according to a report in Yahoo! Sports, which cited numbers from NFLShop.com and retailer Fanatics.com. Kaepernick, 25, has made just 10 NFL starts, but he took his team to the cusp of a Super Bowl championship in February and will begin his first full season as the 49ers starter this season.
The Turlock product has wide-ranging appeal, and it seems he's been everywhere this offseason. Earlier this week, he won an ESPY award, edging out NFC West counterpart Russell Wilson for Breakthrough Athlete of the Year. He's also appeared at the Country Music Awards, shot and ad for Jaguar (he was compensated with a new sports car) and took pictures with First Lady Michelle Obama. He appeared without his jersey - or any other article of clothing - on ESPN's "Body Issue" earlier this month.
Kaepernick beat Wilson and another popular, young quarterback, Washington's Robert Griffin III, in summer jersey sales. The 49ers will play the Wilson and the Seahawks in Weeks 2 and 14. They visit Griffin's Redskins in Week 12.
