Darcel McBath saved a touchdown Friday in Kansas City, and while doing so ended his season. McBath, a safety, was placed on injured reserve today with a foot injury he suffered while running down Chiefs punt returner Devon Wylie in the third quarter.
Taking his place on the active roster is inside linebacker Joe Holland, who was waived by the Buccaneers this week. Holland joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent from Purdue last offseason and played well. He was among the 49ers' final cuts, and he later spent time on the practice squad for the Dolphins and Buccaneers. The 49ers likely signed him because inside linebacker Nate Stupar, another special teams player, has missed practice this week with an undisclosed injury.
McBath, meanwhile, was a backup safety a year ago and also appeared on special teams. Along with Patrick Willis, he stopped a fake field goal attempt by the Ravens in the second quarter of the Super Bowl. However, he appeared to have the best shot at tackling Ravens returner Jacoby Jones early in his 108-yard touchdown to open the second half.
The others on injured reserve are LB Darius Fleming (ACL), WR Brandon Carswell (ACL) and FB Alex Debniak (Achilles').
