Lightning strikes before the offenses do; game halted

*****UPDATE***** League officials announced the game is scheduled to resume at 7:05 p.m.

At 6:02 p.m., a lightning bolt flashed across the sky outside CenturyLink Field as Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson scrambled on third down. Three minutes later, the officials halted the game and sent the teams into their respective locker rooms with the game scoreless. The two teams have played almost 12 minutes in the first quarter and both quarterbacks have thrown an interception.

The NFL's opening game in Denver also was suspended for a little more than a half hour because of thunderstorms in the area. The forecast in Seattle calls for more lightning this evening. A 2006 game between the 49ers and Seahawks in Seattle was delayed 12 minutes due to heavy rain that puddled on the artificial surface of the field.
