Vernon Davis returns to practice; no Willis, Asomugha

Tight end Vernon Davis was on the field for Tuesday's practice after missing Sunday's game with a left hamstring strain. Davis was listed as a "limited" participant on Monday's injury report and likely will have the same designation later today.

Linebacker Patrick Willis (groin) and cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha (knee) were not on the field and neither is likely to play Thursday against the Rams. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, however, would not rule Willis out for the Rams game. "He's making a lot of progress," Fangio said. "It remains to be seen whether he'll be ready on Thursday or not."

Special teams ace Ray Ventrone was in a blue, no-contact uniform after suffering a concussion on Sunday.
