Pregame: Willis to start; LaMichael James, Asomugha healthy scratches

LaMichael James and Nnamdi Asomugha are healthy scratches for the 49ers today as they take on the Cardinals. Meanwhile, Patrick Willis will start at inside linebacker or the first time since a Sept. 22 groin injury while Jonathan Goodwin will start at center after missing Friday's practice with the flu.

For the Cardinals, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has been dealing with hamstring strains in both legs. He worked out under the gaze of the team trainers two hours before the game and will start for Arizona.

James had been serving as the 49ers' kick returner and No. 3 running back. He was not on the injury report this week. That he and offensive lineman Joe Looney will not play means no one from the 49ers' 2012 draft class will be in a 49ers uniform today.

Asomugha, meanwhile, seems to have lost his No. 3 cornerback job to Tramaine Brock, who has two interceptions last week and was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his effort. That bears watching as the 49ers appear poised to get their first look at another cornerback, Eric Wright, next week.
