49ers pregame: Staley up, Iupati down vs. Seahawks

Joe Staley is active and will start today's game at left tackle. Linemate - and fellow Pro Bowler - Mike Iupati, however, will miss his third straight start with a knee injury. So will tight end Garrett Celek, who is dealing with a hamstring injury. Celek is a run-blocking tight end while Iupati, the team's left guard, often leads the way on Frank Gore's inside runs.

Adam Snyder will start in place of Iupati while Derek carrier, a former wide receiver, will play in place of Celek. That might mean a more pass-oriented attack than the 49ers have shown against Seattle in recent meetings.

Staley suffered a Grade 1 MCL sprain in the first quarter last week and missed the rest of the game. Subequent tests, however, showed little damage to the join, and Staley practiced on Thursday and Friday. He will be matched against Bruce Irvin, and at times, Cliff Avril today.

Tarell Brown also will miss his third straight start with a rib injury. Brown this week said it will take more time before he is full recovered. Even when he is, it's no guarantee he will take back his former job from Tramaine Brock, who has played well in Brown's absence and whom the 49ers recently rewarded with a four-year contract extension.

As has been the case in recent weeks, rookie defensive linemen Tank Carradine and Quinton Dial are inactive for today's game. Also inactive are a pair of wide receivers, Quinton Patton and Jon Baldwin

49ers inactives:
WR Quinton Patton
WR Jon Baldwin
DL Tank Carradine
DL Quinton Dial
CB Tarell Brown
G Mike Iupati
TE Garrett Celek

Seahawks inactives
WR Percy Harvin
RB Christine Michael
CB Brandon Browner
T Michael Bowie
T Caylin Hauptmann
DE Bryson Mayowa
DT Jordan Hill
