49ers' 2014 schedule: Miles less strenuous than this year's version

The 49ers, who journeyed farther than any other NFL team this season (and will journey some more in the playoffs), will get a big reprieve in 2014. They have only one trip to the east coast, at the New York Giants, and won't have to board a plane at all when they visit the Raiders, who reside just 40 miles up Route 880.

The road schedule includes trips to Denver and Dallas as well as what has become a seemingly annual visit to New Orleans. The 49ers will have visited the Saints in the preseason or regular season in each of the last four years.

Highlighting the home schedule is a visit from Alex Smith and the Chiefs, which practically begs to be placed in prime time. The 49ers also will host playoff-bound San Diego, Philadelphia and, of course, Seattle. The time and dates will be announced in April.
