We step away from FA Watch to note that the 49ers had a scout at Wyoming's pro day today. The featured attraction was a wide receiver, Robert Herron, who reportedly ran his 40-yard dash in the 4.3-second range. That's an improvement from the combine when he was clocked at 4.48 seconds.
Herron also had a good showing at the Senior Bowl. He's seen as a mid-round draft pick who has drawn comparisons to Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton, a third-round pick in 2012. Hilton's name should raise the ears of 49ers fans considering he is one of the few wideouts last year to have a big day against Seattle's secondary.
Wyoming quarterback Brett Smith also was impressive today, according to reports. The 49ers traded for Blaine Gabbert this week but still could add a quarterback in the draft.
