Giants, Orioles lineups: Hot August keeps Belt third

SAN FRANCISCO -- They say not to mess with a good thing, and right now Brandon Belt is the best thing the Giants' lineup has going for it. So Belt, who's hitting .458 (11-for-24) in August, is batting third again today against a left-hander in the Orioles' Wei-Yin Chen.

"Shoot, the way he's swinging the bat, can't take him out of there," manager Bruce Bochy said of Belt, who has homered in each of the last two games.

Buster Posey catches Chad Gaudin despite it being a day game after a night game since the Giants have a day off Monday. Brandon Crawford still gets the day off today, with Joaquin Arias starting at shortstop.

Here's the full lineup:

2B Scutaro
SS Arias
1B Belt
C Posey
RF Pence
3B Sandoval
RF Francoeur
CF Torres
P Gaudin

And the Orioles' lineup against Gaudin:

LF McLouth
3B Machado
1B Davis
CF Jones
RF Markakis
SS Hardy
2B Flaherty
C Teagarden
P Chen

* Gaudin has allowed two or fewer runs in eight of his 10 starts for the Giants. Overall the rotation has 12 quality starts in the last 14 games, and the Giants are still 5-9 in those games. Four is their magic number. When the offense scores four or more runs this year, the Giants are 40-11.

* The Giants woke up this morning 14 games behind the first-place Dodgers. Last time they were that far out of first in the West -- the last day of the 2007 season, when they finished 71-91 and 19 games behind the Diamondbacks.
