The latest on California politics and government

Late on Tuesday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger kept up his high rate of vetoes, dispatching the final 200 bills in the hours before the midnight deadline.

Schwarzenegger nixed a new fee on cargo ships at the port of Long Beach (a top environmental priority) and legislation to move away from the Electoral College.

He signed a bipartisan package of four bills to crack down on metal theft.

But he vetoed legislation to create a new state holiday to honor Harvey Milk, the gay icon, regulate private post-secondary schools and grant drivers licenses to illegal immigrants.
