The latest on California politics and government

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn is considering a run for lieutenant governor.

Hahn, a Democrat, filed paperwork with the Secretary of State's office Monday to establish an exploratory committee for the race.

Current candidates for the seat include Democratic Sens. Dean Florez and Alan Lowenthal as well as Republican Sens. Sam Aanestad and Jeff Denham.

The spot could also be up for grabs far before the next election. Current "guv lite" John Garamendi is considered the leading candidate for a Nov. 3 runoff election to fill the vacant 10th Congressional District seat. If Garamendi goes to Washington, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will be tasked with tapping someone for the seat for the interim.
