The latest on California politics and government

Maldonadofirstvote.JPGTwo months after falling four votes short of confirmation, GOP Sen. Abel Maldonado got the Assembly's OK to fill the vacant lieutenant governor post.

The initial vote came in at 51-17, with several members adding on for a final tally of 54-19.

The February vote tally can be seen here.

The Senate, which approved the nomination in February, plans to take up a confirmation vote Monday.

UPDATE: The Clerk's office says that as of 12:45, the vote tally was 53-21 (Assembly rules allow for members to change their votes after the call is closed as long as it does not change the outcome of the vote). Democratic Assemblywoman Lori Saldaña's office says she changed her vote to "no" at the end of the session after accidentally casting an "aye" vote.
