San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's nine-point lead over Republican Lt. Gov Abel Maldonado has slipped to just four points in the lieutenant governor's race, according to Field Poll results released today.

Newsom, a Democrat, is now ahead 39 percent to 35 percent with 26 percent of voters undecided.

The attorney general contest remains close. Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, a Republican, leads San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris, a Democrat, 35 percent to 31 percent. More than a third of voters are still undecided in that race.
