To the victor go the napkins.
Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado and his Texas counterpart, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, have bet a mouthful on this year's World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers -- many mouthfuls, in fact.
"We have the best weather, best foods and championship sporting teams," Maldonado said in a written statement. "I am so confident the Giants will bring home the win over the Texas Rangers that I'm placing a wager with my colleague."
If the Rangers win the seven-game series, Maldonado promised to deliver Santa Maria-style barbecue, California wine and sandwiches from San Francisco's Ike's Deli to Dewhurst and his staff in their Austin office.
If the Giants win, Dewhurst vowed to provide a "Texas-size portion of our legendary beef brisket."
"The San Francisco Giants are going to learn pretty quick that everything's bigger here in Texas," Dewhurst said of the Rangers' prospects.
Let the games begin Wednesday.
And pass the forks.
