The latest on California politics and government

Between his swearing-in ceremony next Monday and a private reception that afternoon, Gov.-elect Jerry Brown will mingle with the masses at the Capitol, lunching on free hot dogs and chips.

The party, hosted by the Orange County Employees Association and Sen. Lou Correa, D-Santa Ana, is being billed by the union as an "inauguration party celebrating the election of the People's Governor, Jerry Brown."

Brown is expected to speak at the event, from noon to 2:30 p.m. on the Capitol's north lawn, union spokeswoman Jennifer Muir said.

Brown, 72, has said he is "not a normal hamburger or hot dog man."

He does indulge, however, on occasion.
