Vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan is in California collecting campaign cash for the Romney-Ryan ticket, starting out in the south state, according to the Fresno Bee's Jim Boren.
Ryan will be heading north for a breakfast fundraiser Saturday at the Danville home of former 49ers tight end Brent Jones and his wife, Dana. (Click here to view the flier.)
Later that day, the Wisconsin congressman will be in the Central Valley for a fundraising dinner at the Fresno Convention Center. Tickets range from $1,000 up to $25,000 at both events.
Back in Sacramento, community activists hold a memorial service Saturday on the Capitol's north steps at 11 a.m. to honor the victims of the shooting last month at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisc., including Officer Brian Murphy, who was also shot during the attack.
And on Sunday, California celebrates its 162nd birthday with live patriotic music, cake and ice cream. The statehood Admission Day celebration starts at 11:30 a.m. on the Capitol's north steps.
CAKE AND CANDLES: Assemblywoman Holly J. Mitchell, D-Los Angeles, turns 48 today, and Sen. Bob Huff, R-Diamond Bar, turns 59 on Sunday. Birthday wishes to both.
