A shocking story from Stanislaus County, via ModBee
A Modesto police officer shot and killed a Turlock man as he beat, punched and stomped a small child to death in the middle of a dark country road Saturday night.Passerbys called authorities after the man parked a Toyota truck in the middle of Bradbury Road near Blaker Road in rural Stanislaus County, 10 miles west of Turlock. About 10:15 p.m. the 27-year-old man took the 12- to 24-month-old boy out of a car seat and beat him savagely, police said.
A Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department helicopter, flown by a deputy with a Modesto police officer in the second seat, was on patrol in the Turlock area and was first on scene, said Dep. Royjindar Singh, the sheriff's spokesman.
"The helicopter spotlights the scene and sees this guy just beating on this infant or baby in the middle of the road. I can't imagine what that looked like," Singh said.
The helicopter landed in a nearby cow pasture within a minute of arriving. The Modesto police officer commanded the man to stop at gunpoint 10 to 15 yards away from behind a set of electric and barbwire fences, Singh said. When the man "continued to stomp the child," the officer fired, Singh said.
