From Art Campos:
Facing a judge can be a stressful experience.
However, one 29-year-old Weimar resident may have gone too far this week when he allegedly tried to sneak a bottle of vodka into the courtroom.
The Placer County Sheriff's Department reported that Justin W. Erickson was stopped at the metal detector station at the front doors of the courthouse in the former DeWitt Center when he tried to check in an 8:30 a.m. hearing Wednesday.
Deputies discovered he was carrying a plastic bin that contained the vodka bottle and several hypodermic syringes, the sheriff's report said.
Erickson, who had come to court on a charge of violating parole for failing to attend a June 2 court date, was immediately arrested on suspicion of violating probation again and on a charge of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, the report said.
In addition, Erickson could face more charges for a June 6 arrest for allegedly possessing illegal drugs and driving under the influence, said Scott Owens of the Placer County District Attorney's Office.
The June 6 incident is currently being reviewed for possible prosecution, he said.
Erickson's next hearing in a courtroom is scheduled for July 22, Owens said.
