A Sacramento man was arrested Sunday in connection with the stabbing death of Dinesh Kumar Singh, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department reports.
At 1:30 p.m. Sunday, detectives arrested Gabriel Pete Chavez, 32, near Laguna Boulevard and Interstate 5, after he contacted the Sheriff's Department and arranged to turn himself in, according a department news release.
Chavez allegedly stabbed Singh Saturday morning in the driveway of Singh's home in the 7500 block of Glendora Court, officials said. Sheriff's officials said a 36-year-old friend of the victim found the victim lying in the driveway of the residence and rushed him to a south area hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Chavez was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of murder, as well as several active misdemeanor traffic warrants, officials said. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Dept. 3.
The investigation is continuing and detectives are still attempting to establish a motive for the crime. Anyone with information about the fatal stabbing is urged to call Sheriff's Homicide detectives at (916) 874-5115.
