From Chelsea Phua:
Fishermen found the body of a missing 39-year-old man Friday morning in the Sacramento River south of the Isleton Bridge, authorities said.
Sacramento County coroner's officials identified him as Donald Nelson Gower Jr. of Sacramento. They said the manner or cause of death has not been determined.
Sheriff's officials said Gower was last seen at 4:41 a.m. last Thursday on a videotape showing him going through one of the doors of Franklin High School, where he worked as a custodian.
Detectives said at that time that they did not find any evidence that would lead them to believe that Gower had been a victim of foul play.
His family and employer said his disappearance was out of character.
Peter Stocks, Gower's brother-in-law, said at the time that Gower kept busy even on the weekends helping his roommate with a catering business.
"He's not a guy who would leave his work," Stocks said.
He also spent time on the weekends with his teenage son. Stocks said Gower had battled with a drug addiction a few years ago, but had been sober for a year and a half. Recently, he had been doing well at work, Stocks said.
