From Niesha Lofing:
Three men face narcotics charges in connection to a $750,000 marijuana growing operation in a south Sacramento County field.
The men were arrested after Shasta County Sheriff's deputies responded at about noon Wednesday to a report of suspicious activity in a field on the 9000 block of Grant Line Road, sheriff's Sgt. R.L. Davis stated in a news release.
Deputies found a large white van with several men inside in the field. As a sheriff's sergeant approached the vehicle, it sped off, Davis said.
The men abandoned the vehicle after a short pursuit. Several deputies and a K-9 team chased then apprehended and arrested the men without incident.
Deputies searching the van and field found several bags of marijuana and about 13,000 marijuana plants. The street value of the marijuana seized is $750,000, narcotics detectives say.
The men, who are 35, 38 and 44, were booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on several narcotics-related counts, Davis said. Their identities are being withheld at the request from investigators who don't want to divulge that information during the initial phase of the investigation, he said.
