Elk Grove police have arrested three people who allegedly tried to rob two people before leading police on a pursuit.
The incident began around 11 p.m. Wednesday when a 16-year-old boy and Orlando Rhinehart, 22, reportedly approached a man and a 17-year-old girl in front of a home in the 6000 block of Adobe Springs Way, according to a police report.
Rhinehart allegedly pointed a shotgun at the man and girl and demanded property. After the victims ran into a nearby home, Rhinehart and the 16-year-old left on foot and was seen getting into a white four-door vehicle, police said.
About 15 minutes later, an officer spotted the vehicle traveling north on Franklin Boulevard from Calvine Road.
A 17-year-old boy was driving the vehicle, which had the 16-year-old as its only passenger. The vehicle failed to yield to officers and a pursuit began, police said.
The pursuit traveled through several streets in the area of Valley Hi Drive west of Franklin. The 17-year-old pulled over and fled on foot, but the pursuit continued with the 16-year-old behind the wheel, police said.
The 16-year-old then stopped and fled on foot, but was apprehended. A stolen shotgun was found in the vehicle, authorities said.
Officers located the 17-year-old with the help of the Sacramento Police Department, while information led to Rhinehart being taken into custody at his home, police said.
All three were arrested on suspicion of robbery, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy.
The 16- and 17-year-olds were also arrested on suspicion of evading a police officer, while Rhinehart was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm while committing a crime.
