From Sandy Louey:
Redding police on Monday arrested two boys who allegedly burglarized a home last month and stole items including firearms.
A home in the 3700 block of Alma Avenue was burglarized Jan. 17. Items stolen included two shotguns, a large caliber rifle, a small caliber rifle, a leather jacket and food, Sgt. Bruce Bonner said in a news release from the Redding Police Department.
On Jan. 26, a resident spotted two stolen rifles in the bushes by the Redding Area Bus Authority terminal. The weapons, which had their serial numbers removed, were identified by the homeowner as being his weapons, police said.
Police received a tip on Jan. 30 about a 14-year-old boy who lived near the homeowner as having the leather jacket. A probation search of the boy's home found stolen items from Enterprise High School and clothing belonging to the burglary victim, authorities said.
A bulletin was issued asking law enforcement to be on the lookout for the boy, who was a runaway, and a 15-year-old boy, who was another runaway from Redding.
On Sunday night, Anderson police officers spotted the two boys walking on a street in Anderson. The boys were taken to the Redding Police Department.
Redding police interviewed the boys, who admitted to the burglary and said they had traded most of the stolen property for marijuana, Bonner said.
Both boys were booked into the Shasta County juvenile hall on suspicion of residential burglary, possession of stolen property and misappropriation of found property. The 14-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of violating probation, Bonner said.
