From Bee Staff:
Fast work by the Auburn Police Department apparently caught an armed robbery suspect before he could act, according to Police Chief Valerie Harris.
Michael Francis Brown, 25, of Sacramento was arrested while in line Wednesday night at a pharmacy at a Longs Drug store in a shopping center at 388 Elm Ave. in Auburn, a news release said. Officers found in Brown's possession a loaded .38-caliber handgun and a note demanding Oxycontin, a prescription painkiller, the release said.
Brown did not possess a prescription for Oxycontin, officers said.
Harris detailed how the arrest transpired:
Brown was in and out of the store several times and asked about Oxycontin.
Brown's actions made a store employee suspicious. The employee called the Placer County Sheriff's Department, and the information was relayed to the Auburn Police Department.
Officers also found on Brown "controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, illegal drugs and a switchblade knife," Harris said in the release.
Officer found Brown's vehicle in the parking lot.
Brown was booked into the Placer County Jail. He is being held on $100,000 bail, the release said.
