From Sandy Louey:
Elk Grove police have arrested a 41-year-old Citrus Heights man believed to be a serial bank robber nicknamed "Flannel Guy" who has hit four banks in eight days.
At 5 p.m. Wednesday, police received information that John Sandretto, a wanted parolee, would be at a home in the 5500 block of Laguna Park Drive in Elk Grove, Officer Christopher Trim said in a press release.
Officers began a surveillance of the home and Sandretto was taken into custody on a felony warrant and narcotic charges, police said.
An investigation found that Sandretto was responsible for four bank robberies in the Sacramento region: the Union Bank of California at 1850 Douglas Blvd. in Roseville on Feb. 17; the Downey Savings & Loan at 5000 Laguna Blvd. in Elk Grove on Feb. 20; the Washington Mutual Bank at 3601 Fair Oaks Blvd. in Sacramento on Monday; and the Wells Fargo Bank at 2000 Douglas Blvd. in Roseville on Wednesday.
During the robberies, Sandretto handed tellers a note and demanded money. He had been nicknamed the "Flannel Guy" because of the plaid flannel jacket that he wore during the first two robberies, authorities said. (Bank surveillance photos from Elk Grove robbery below.)
Sandretto is being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail and is ineligible for bail. Trim said the robbery charges will be added later.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Police Department's detective bureau at (916) 478-8060.
