Authorities arrested two Penn Valley residents Wednesday who allegedly abused a 26-year-old severely mentally handicapped woman.
On Tuesday, an anonymous tip was received about the woman being physically abused and neglected by her father at their home in Penn Valley, according to a press release from the Nevada County Sheriff's Department.
The tip claimed that the woman had been tied up in the past while her father left to go to a casino, the release said. When deputies arrived to check on the woman, her father, Raymond Daniel Gamache Jr., 53, left on foot, the release said.
The woman was sitting in a chair outside unattended, the release said, and the inside of the trailer that she and Gamache lived in had deplorable conditions.
He called the home, but refused to return because he thought he would be arrested, release said.
Deputies collected evidence and took the woman into protective custody. She was taken to the hospital for medical treatment and Nevada County Adult Protective Services helped with placement.
On Wednesday, Gamache surrendered at the courthouse for an unrelated warrant. While there, deputies arrested him on suspicion of dependent adult abuse likely to cause great bodily harm, the release said.
The woman's caretaker, Dawn Renee Anderson, 32, was also arrested on the same charge, the release said.
Both were booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility with bail set at $10,000 each.
