From Sandy Louey:
Redding police have arrested two men for allegedly trying to steal an air compressor worth $1,500.
At 12:14 a.m. Tuesday, an officer saw a suspicious pickup truck along the 1200 block of Twin View Boulevard next to the Ramada Inn Motel, according to a news release from the Redding Police Department.
The officer's attention was diverted by a man who came out from behind a bush south of the motel and north of the neighboring Redding Harley-Davidson dealership. The man, David Bryon Brushett, 44, of Old Shasta, claimed to be the truck's owner, police said.
Brushett was found with tools including bolt cutters, wire cutters, a flashlight and several wrenches. The officer saw a man hiding in the cab of the truck, who was Daniel Dewayne Luster, 34, of Redding, authorities said.
More discarded tools were found where Brushett was first seen. Also found was a partially dismantled air compressor mounted along the north side of the Harley Davidson dealership, police said.
Brushett and Luster were arrested on suspicion of attempted grand theft and conspiracy. They were being held in the Shasta County jail Tuesday on $10,000 bail.
