Six students taken to juvenile hall after Hiram Johnson fight

From Kim Minugh:

Six Hiram Johnson High School students were hauled off to juvenile hall Wednesday morning after fighting on campus, police say.

The fight began about 8:30 a.m., said police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong, and involved students who are part of rival gangs that have been feuding in recent days. Wednesday's fight erupted after "words were exchanged," Leong said.

Fight participants suffered minor injuries, Leong said.

All were taken to juvenile hall and booked on battery charges, he said.

Leong said one department police officer is assigned to Hiram Johnson High as a school resource officer, but other SROs came to the campus after the fight to deter further problems.
