From Stan Oklobdzija:
California Highway Patrol detectives and Sacramento Police Department officers arrested a 40-year-old woman who led police on a high-speed chase with her 5-year-old son in the back seat Wednesday morning, CHP officials said.
Vicky Rainone will be booked at the Sacramento County Jail on a variety of charges after she led police on a chase through the narrow residential streets of Oak Park at about 10 a.m., said Lt. Rick Linson of the CHP.
Rainone was a parolee-at-large who was also wanted in connection with a stolen car in northern Sacramento County, Linson said. Detectives had been tracking her at an apartment building on Third Avenue and 32nd Street, he said.
CHP detectives attempted to arrest Rainone as she left the apartment, but Rainone instead used her Ford Expedition SUV to ram one of the CHP cars before speeding away, Linson said. The detectives set up a perimeter, and eventually Rainone crashed her car into a house near First Avenue and San Jose Way.
After crashing into the house, Rainone left her son in the car and fled, Linson said. A police dog caught up with her a few blocks away after she kicked in a fence and tried hiding under a house, Linson said.
Rainone's 5-year-old son sustained minor head injuries and a bloody nose in the crash, Linson said.
