From Bill Lindelof:
Memorial Day and may have been a holiday but Sacramento police officers were busy in the city's north command well into the early morning hours of the next day. Here's a partial list of crimes worked by the officers from the daily activity log:
- Officers responding to a stabbing about 4 a.m. found a person in the road at Fairfield Street and Redwood Avenue. The victim had several stab wounds and was severely bleeding. Following a trail of blood to an apartment on Fairfield Street, the officer found a 29-year-old man with blood on him.
He was arrested on suspicion of assault. His name was withheld.
The 30-year-old victim was described in serious condition but expected to survive.
--Two officers stopped a bike rider about 6 p.m. near Rio Linda Boulevard and Edgewood Avenue and once they learned he was on probation, initiated a search. Officers allegedly found cocaine and heroin packaged for sale.
But the events did not end there.
The suspect, Kory Thornton, 28, allegedly headbutted one officer and then took a swing at both officers in an attempt to get away.
He ran north on Rio Linda Boulevard but slipped as he tried to make a turn. He was taken into custody after a struggle with officers, police logs say.
- Officers made a stop of a vehicle leaving Sandcove Park on the Sacramento River, suspecting driving under the influence. Inside the car was a loaded .32-caliber handgun.
- An officer made a stop of a man on a bike about midnight near Thelma Avenue and Azusa Street. The bicyclist was on probation so the officer conducted a search.
The man was found to be carrying a bag of spark plugs, which police say is a common tool for burglars wanting to break windows.
The man, who also had a stolen credit card, was booked into jail on stolen property and possession of burglary tools.
- A stolen, speeding vehicle went out of control at the intersection of Colfax Street and Arcade Boulevard. The vehicle hit a parked car and then crashed into a house in the 100 block of Arcade Boulevard.
Officers said there was minimal damage to the house and that the driver has not been found.
