Sacto 9-1-1

Editor's note: Notebook is an occasional series on slices of life found by The Bee's police reporters and editors.

The theme would be mothers and sons from several recent Sacramento Sheriff's Department crime reports.

The message would be that for some families there's not a lot of love left.

Consider:

On May 14, a 49-year-old mother hit her 17-year-old son on the side of the head, hard enough to require the son to seek medical attention. Mom fled before deputies arrived at the residence in the 6200 block of Ranier Way.

On May 14, deputies went to a residence in the 7200 block of Jerry Way to conduct a probation search on a woman. They smelled a "strong odor of unburned marijuana." They found weed packaged in bags next to a digital scale. In the room of the woman's 18-year-old son, they found "separate pay/owe sheets." Mom stayed home but the budding young executive got a ride to jail.

On May 14, a 20-year-old violated the restraining order his 42-year-old mother had against him by going to her residence in the 3500 block of Kings Way, forcing his way past her into the home and falling asleep on the floor where he urinated on himself. Deputies noted he smelled "strongly of alcohol" before applying the steel bracelets.

On May 12, a 15-year-old boy argued with his 46-year-old mother, which escalated to him spitting on her and pushing her. He then physically kept her from leaving the room in a residence in the 9300 block of Sungold Way. Deputies booked the son into juvenile hall "due to the likelihood the offense would continue."

On May 19 in the 5700 block of 42nd Street, a 29-year-old mother became so enraged at her 6-year-old son while he was taking a bath that she pushed the boy's head "under the bath water" and held it there. The woman's boyfriend rescued the son before he was injured. Both her children were place in protective custody and she was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment.

Sacto 9-1-1 Q&A

Q: What happened with the case regarding Marc McCormick? He was accused of videotaping a woman in her home and was arrested. He lives in my neighborhood and I see him all the time. Were charges dropped?

A: According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, misdemeanor charges have been filed against Mark William McCormick, alleging that he used a camcorder or other instrument to view an individual in a place where there was an expectation of privacy, trespassing and peeping.

His next court date is June 4.

According to Sacramento police logs, McCormick, 40, was arrested March 8 after the victim reported that a friend had entered her home without her knowledge to secretly videotape her.
