From Cathy Locke:
The Sacramento Police Department is looking for 21-year-old Guy Azama in connection with Friday's carjacking of a police car and assault on a police officer.
At 3:58 a.m. Friday, an officer responded to the Chevron gas station at 7901 College Town Drive after a man and woman were reported arguing near a gray Chevrolet Malibu.
The officer spoke with a man, later identified as Azama (left), near the gas pumps then searched him, feeling a handgun in the suspect's pocket.
During the search, police say, Azama turned on the officer and assaulted him. During the struggle, Azama broke free, jumped in the officer's car and drove down La Riviera Drive toward Howe Avenue.
As additional officers arrived, Azama abandoned the patrol car near the La Riviera on-ramp to northbound Howe Avenue and doubled back to the waiting Chevrolet Malibu.
Police said Azama and his girlfriend fled west on College Town Drive.
The Malibu has since been located, and officers found a loaded handgun lying on the street several hundred feet from the vehicle, in the direction Azama fled, according to a police department news release issued this morning.
Police said Azama was identified with the help of the community, and they seek the community's assistance in locating him.
