A Marysville man accused of a murder-for-hire plot was arrested Wednesday, police said.
Authorities said Jonathan Scott Franklin, 36, allegedly solicited an undercover police officer to carry out a murder. Police said Franklin paid the undercover officer an undisclosed amount of money and provided him with information about the target of the murder scheme.
The identity of the target is not disclosed for safety reasons, authorities said.
According to a news release by the Marysville Police Department, authorities learned about the scheme last Thursday and launched an investigation that involved the police department's Special Enforcement Team, detective bureau and the Yuba Sutter Narcotic Enforcement Team.
Franklin met with the undercover officer on Wednesday and was arrested on suspicion of felony charges of solicitation to commit homicide, attempted homicide, terrorist threats and burglary. The terrorist threats and burglary charges stemmed from a separate incident involving the intended victim, police said.
Investigators said they also searched Franklin's vehicle and his residence in the 600 block of C Street. Investigators said they found more money they believe Franklin was going to use for the murder-for-hire plot. They also found several electronic devices that may contain more evidence, police said.
Franklin was being held Wednesday at the Yuba County jail on a $2 million bail.
