A 21-year-old Roseville man was sentenced today to 11 years and four months in state prison for sexually assaulting his live-in girlfriend and preventing her from leaving the home by using violence, according to a news release.
Bret James Larson received the sentence from Placer County Superior Court Judge J. Richard Couzens, who also ordered the defendant to pay $1,000 in restitution fines, according to the release from the Placer County District Attorney's Office.
Larson was convicted June 24 when he pleaded guilty to charges of rape, assault, inflicting corporal injury on a co-habitant and false imprisonment by violence, the release states.
Todd Kuhnen, deputy district attorney for Placer County, said the defendant also admitted to having a prior strike in his criminal history, an enhancement that increased his prison sentence.
Seven other charges against Larson were dismissed in a plea deal, including making terrorist threats and several sex-related counts, Kuhnen said.
The incidents against the victim occurred on April 1 and again on April 7 when she returned to the residence to try to get her belongings, Kuhnen said.
